Use Extreme Weather Tents To Stay Warm Indoors

Extreme weather tents can save the day (and more) during severe weather conditions. It may be worrisome to think of how to keep warm indoors during severe cold whether when there’s no heat. Something that many people don’t realize is that if you lose power during a cold snap, and the temperature in your house starts to fall, you can actually stay in a tent inside to keep yourself warm.

Generally, tents are designed to be highly insulated since they’re primarily designed to be used outdoors in cold weather conditions. So, if you use one inside and combine it with a sleeping bag, you should be able to stay warm.

Selecting tents for extreme weather

Here are points to consider before you go looking for a severe weather tent to buy.

Think about size. Tents tend to be measured in size by how many people they can fit.

For example, the majority of smaller tents are 2-person tents. They can fit one person comfortably, and two people snugly. There are larger ones as well that can fit four, eight, ten, or even twelve people at once.

        • A two-person should be fine if you live alone or just with one other person. But if you live with a large family, you’re going to want to be sure to get one that accommodates everyone.

Try to get pop-up tents, and ones that don’t require stakes. Obviously, since you’ll be using them inside, you can’t have stakes being hammered into your floors.

Pop-up tents don’t require stakes to stay up, since they use metal rods running across the inside to keep it up.

Try to get extreme weather tents that don’t have mesh windows. While it’s not the worst thing to have on a tent, try to get one without mesh windows if you’re worried about cold weather.

        • Many tents meant for outdoor use in summer months have mesh windows that keep out bugs but let a cold breeze through. These will just let heat out during the winter, so make sure your cold weather tent either doesn’t have them or has an option to zip them up when they’re not in use.
        • These tents tend to easily compress down to a very small bag, so they’re very easy to store. They don’t take up much space, and you can keep them under your bed or in a closet until needed.

Get a good quality extreme weather tent that’s well insulated, and you’ll be able to stay warm in a harsh cold snap even without electricity for your heater.

Make sure you seal off the room in which you set up your tent. This will help to keep the room more insulated and keep you warmer.
