Are You Prepared For Severe Weather Events?
Severe weather events have the power to bring life as you know it to a complete standstill.
Whether the temperature rises to 100 plus degrees and you have no air conditioner or dips below freezing with no heat, you still need to be prepared.
When it comes to survival prepping, many people get ready for extreme weather conditions such as a hurricane or tornado but fail to prepare for something with the potential to be more deadly – extreme hot weather or extreme cold weather.
Preparing for extremes in temperature by stocking up with just a few bottles of water and some food will not cut it. That’s just not enough to get you and your family through the tough road that may be ahead.
Preparing for extreme weather
When you get too hot, your body quickly gets dehydrated and without intervention, you can start to get a headache, feel dizzy and weak and even experience a heatstroke. It doesn’t take extreme temperatures for it to be considered a hot weather survival situation, either.
If the temperature reaches 90 degrees, coupled with humidity, it puts your survival at risk. You never know when the electric grid may go down, leaving you unable to provide a method of cooling or access to water.
Being prepared in case of extremely hot weather will make life more bearable for you and your family during severely hot weather.
Severe weather warnings have shown image after image of what can happen when a crippling cold weather event hits an area.
It has the power to bring life as you know it to a complete standstill.
The lower the temperatures or the longer it lasts, the more havoc it can wreak on your life. That’s why it’s imperative that you learn how to survive a cold weather event.
One of the main differences between a hot and cold weather crisis is that in cold weather, where ice or snow is involved, the roads sometimes become impassable.
Consequently, residents are trapped in their homes with limited or no access to food or water — and no way to escape. In all likelihood, they will not have power, either, since power lines may be down.
Pay attention to severe weather alerts
Paying attention to severe weather alerts so that you can plan for the periodic power outages and what all that entails is simply smart. This involves a lot more than just ordering supplies. It’s about knowing what to do to make the most out of an uncomfortable, and sometimes dangerous hot or cold severe weather event.
After hearing and heeding the warnings of impending extreme weather, some people think that they’re prepared just by having some food available and a few dozen bottles of water on hand.
But when the power grid fails or the utility company is forced to cut service for a few days because of safety issues, families go into distress, especially when they thought they had it all under control and was prepared.
So how do you maneuver through the challenge of keeping you and your family safe when you hear of a severe weather outlook or during severe weather conditions?
Preparation is the key. Remember, it’s more than just having food supplies and water.
It’s knowing the tips, tricks and strategies of survival during a severe weather event you thought would never happen. Until it does.
